There's a bunch of information from this Google search that might help.

Thanks! I have bookmarked a few of these. It was all over the local news today that L.A. was going to do away with them; it would be nice if my county did too. I know I'm not in a huge rush to send it in and identify him (he was driving my car, and the ticket was sent to me, but that's obviously not me in the photo

Today, the Denver metro area's temperature is breaking it's streak of 17 days of heat in the 90's (F) by having an estimated high of only 85 (F). It's been 95+ since last week, so 85 feels almost like the fall?

... Apparently Cincinnati and Denver got the same settings in the weather machine this month. 17 straight days of 90+ temperatures, then 85 today.

I got my hair colored today (for the first time ever, woohoo!), and I must be allergic to either the dye or the hair products the stylist used, because my nose is so congested it feels like it wants to explode.

Perhaps you guys should consider accommodation somewhere other than the surface of the sun.

For some reason the typo here is really bugging me and people keep quoting it.

I say BLAH to your wacky english-language-thing of using two consonants together to make the same sound it makes with a single one.

And I say blah to Spanish's counter-intuitive phrasing. I can't say "I'm walking on the beach;" I have to say "I'm walking for the beach." I can't say "I play in the band;" I have to say "I'm touching in the band."
("Yo camino por la playa" and "Yo toco in la banda", respectively)

You're just being silly, we all know Spanish is the greatest language of them all.

Re: A whine and complain thread
English is the hardest language to learn (as I've read anyway), but I love how we have so many different words for the same thing because each has its own nuanced meaning. "He's thrifty" and "He's penny-pinching" for example.

French is fairly decent at playing off English meanings, actually. Student is étudiant(e) and pupil is élève, for example. Talk about picking nits.

Re: A whine and complain thread
English is a wacky, wonky language, with so many incongruities and exceptions to the rules, and I'm glad it was my "first" language, because I probably would have failed miserably trying to learn it as a second language.

I have been having an impossible time trying to start zinnias from seeds. They are easy to grow, so why won't they come up, dammit? (And yes, I've been watering them.)

I wish I could drink alcohol. I have more than a month of the antifungal meds to go.

Re: A whine and complain thread
Everyone I've asked who actually had to learn English as a foreign language has told me it's pretty easy. The grammar isn't especially complex (at a basic level, anyway), verbs and such tend to come in far fewer flavours and things like irregular plurals are just exceptions that can be learned like any other vocabulary. Myself, I couldn't get the hang of [url=http://german.about.com/library/blcase_sum.htm]German cases[/i]. It all seems rather more complex than English, which has some extra pronouns to stick in where appropriate but has a pretty uncomplicated system for their application ('he' at the start of a sentence, 'him' anywhere else).
The spelling issue Fan initially complained about is a thing, though. At least we're not speaking Welsh. But German definitely has the right idea with letters reliably representing particular sounds. *Slaps forehead* why didn't we think of that?
But yeah, also if it were an uncommonly difficult language to learn it probably would never have become so darned popular.

Estoy de acuerdo con Enty, más o menos, pero creo que el español es más fácil que el inglés.
I miss my Spanish classes.

Yeehaw Babelfish said that that said what I thought it said. I am a language prodigy!
I've also heard that Spanish is an easy language to learn, but I don't know anything about it so I can't hazard a guess as to why. I chose German over Spanish because it was rumoured to be easier, but as it turned out we were all tricked by recognisable vocabulary. Vocabulary is not the difficult part!
